One of the greatest – and easiest – accomplishments of the enemies of Christ in our culture has been the proliferation of popular systems, movements, and philosophies aimed at steering the attention, energy, and resources of people toward anything but the Gospel as the solution to…well…pretty much anything in “the real world”.
The belief that anything truly good can be rightly or profitably pursued apart from God is the original lie from the serpent’s tongue in Eden, so you’d think that we might notice and not fall for it every time it was pitched our way, but oooooooh nooooooo…that tired old re-re-retreaded lie is still a best-selling fave “truth” of even most professing conservative Christians in America today.
We agree with the serpent when he tells us again and again and again that we can profitably pursue truth in certain areas of life while at the same time setting aside the personification of Truth as our essential Guide.
We agree with the serpent’s perspective on the pursuit of knowledge. (See: Redeeming Children’s Education – Confronting Our Satanic Approach to the Pursuit of Knowledge)
We agree with the serpent’s perspective when it comes to our children’s education. (See: Why is the beast of Socialism eating our children? Ask your pastor.)
We agree with the serpent when it comes to politics, government, leadership, and law. (See: The America Idol: How “Christians” Worship and Enable the Anti-Christ State.)
We agree with the serpent on matters of business, work, and economics. (See: Fiat $lavery: We have been bought and paid for…with nothing.)
We are a thoroughly satanic culture.
How thoroughly?
Well, we agree with the serpent on all of these things and yet still fancy ourselves to be some sort of “Christian” or “exceptional nation” or some such thing.
Talk about blind.
And delusional.
Or maybe it’s just good ol’ American pride…which is sure to be a favorite tool of the serpent.
We look to and idolize our cherished secular experts, counting on them to lead us out of the darkness and into the light – to freedom, liberty, and a restored America all by doing exactly what the serpent prescribed from the start: Pursue “truth” apart from God.
Political “truth”, economic “truth”, legal “truth”, and every other secular “truth” and “expert” out there…we chase after ’em all, and they all dutifully and purposefully lead us anywhere but the Gospel for our “fix”.
And why?
Because the serpent knows that the Gospel – and only the Gospel – can and will save even the most smoldering cultures…one supernatural salvation at a time.
But that is sooooo slooooooow sounding.
It’s soooo bottom-up and meticulous.
It’s soooo demanding of us.
I mean, that solution could take generations to finally succeed?!
Who has time for that, right?
Apparently not most professing Christians who are looking to the Republican Party, Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, and the like to save the day…by setting aside the Gospel and dismissing the lordship of Christ in practice.
Yeah, that’ll work. Just one more good Reagan-type Republican and we can turn this thing around! One more Republican super-majority in Congress and we can turn this thing around! One more week of soaking in some Mark Levin or Rush Limbaugh and we will be better equipped to win the culture war!
I mean, this approach has already worked so well for us, right?
That’s another way of saying: “We never learn, do we?”
And that’s another way of saying that the ongoing victory of the serpent in America is being most enabled and most encouraged by professing Christian conservatives who have cast aside the hard, it’ll-cost-you-everything, multi-generational, Gospel-fueled Great Commission of Christ in favor of…well…just the latest “conservative” flavored re-re-re-retread of the original lie in Eden.
So who has the time for multi-generational conquest?
Who has the time for multi-generational cultural transformation?
The serpent does.
And he’s doing quite well with it…thanks to unbelieving “Christians” helping him along year after year, decade, after decade, election after election, and generation after generation.
May God grace His people with the vision, zeal, and opportunity to wage the multi-generational war through which His Kingdom might be advanced from victory to victory in this and every other land in His creation, all by His grace, for His glory, and our eternal benefit.
