The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country.

We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society.

…in almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons…who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind.

So begins Propaganda, the world- and culture-shaping book written by Edward Bernays and first published in 1928. If you haven’t read it, please consider doing so. It’s short (about 175 pages), but it is very powerful and very insightful, particularly for those of us living in 2014 America.

Propaganda itself as a concept or tool is neither inherently good nor inherently evil. It is what we make it.

Just think of what has come to be the “new normal” in America since Bernays wrote his book:

  1. We now routinely (and quite happily) hand our children over to the State for explicitly anti-Christian worldview training, beginning at the age of 4 or 5. (See: The Satanic view on children’s education…as embraced by most professing Christians in America.)
    .
  2. We now consider it a privilege of prosperity to pipe Corporate-crafted propaganda straight into our living rooms, bedrooms, cars, and offices for hours each day by way of television, radio, and other widespread media, much of which has become so commonplace that it is now difficult to find a fast food restaurant or auto repair shop waiting room that doesn’t have it actively rolling at all times (usually on multiple screens).
    .
  3. We now passionately follow and participate in the controlled, contrived political theater of a “two party system” totally owned by the State and Corporate elites described in Bernays’ book…all while reading less and less such books and listening to less and less thought in any form or format that does not conform to what The System of Systems has programmed us to deem acceptable.

We have been comprehensively and purposefully propagandized.

And we seem to love it!

Which has always been the goal of our ruling elites, after all: To craft conceptual chains the likes of which we will come to adore, cherish, and defend. After many generations of careful manipulation through patriotism, tradition, and even religion, all filtered through State-controlled “education” and Corporate-controlled pop-culture systems, we have been conditioned to embrace a combination of blissful ignorance and stupid, ignorant pride.

We are proud, confident, and happy-to-be ignorant slaves who are more than content to let our ruling “experts” and elites lead us to wherever they would have us go.

They are more than happy to do so, of course.

The question for Christians in America (and throughout the similarly propagandized/controlled West) as we prepare to tackle 2015 to the glory of God is, “What are we going to do about it?”

Are we going to simply roll along with the tide, as we have done for hundreds of years now, enabling the unbiblical consolidation of power in the hands of unbelievers so that they can continue to shape and mold people, families, cultures and civilizations into blind, deaf, and dumb cattle upon which they can more and more effectively feed?

Or will we take up the Gospel-fueled Great Commission and actively strive with whatever means we have been given by God to proclaim and apply His Nature as revealed in His Word in every realm of His creation?

Do we love things like work, business, economics, freedom, liberty, and prosperity?

Do we want to build real business, craft real art, and acquire real wealth, all to the glory of God and the benefit of His people?

Are we willing to actively, consistently fight for our children and grandchildren to have the opportunity to build businesses and cultivate skills in economically (and culturally) beneficial manners that might allow them to accumulate real wealth, rather than sacrificing themselves and their families by chasing after the fictional “money out of thin air” crafted effortlessly by ruling elites for the purpose of maintaining control and preventing true, biblical, autonomy encouraging prosperity?

Are we willing to take our children back from the State right now and trust that our God will show us a real, workable path to obedience and success where the education of our children is concerned?

God calls and equips His people to obedience, and He then honors that obedience. It’s all by His grace, for His glory, and to our benefit.

Do we believe that?

Does the Church believe that?

Our lives, families, and futures are even now hanging on the answer to that question. The fate of our culture and civilization is at stake.

Whose propaganda do we believe?

Who is our God in practice?
