Jesus owns and directs 2017 just as completely and perfectly as He owned and directed 2016, 2015, and every previous year in His creation of time.
Let that sink in.
Then smile accordingly.
Our King is in complete control…however much that central fact of time and history may be denied or dismissed by many.
So as we roll into what is, for us, a new year, let’s take note of the fact that this year is not new to Him at all.
2017 is no mystery to Him.
2017 is not “up in the air” in any sense.
It is fully known to Him in every detail. Better still, it is ordained by Him in every detail.
His Kingdom is conquering everything, all by His grace, all for His glory, and all to the eternal benefit of His people. His Gospel-fueled Great Commission is even now in the process of reconciling all things to Him – and “all things” means all things (see: Colossians 1:15-20).
Business, law, economics, politics, education, art…everything.
It’s all being brought into conformity with Him on His schedule according to His decree for all of His creation and He has chosen to accomplish the advance of His Kingdom in time and space through the grace-fueled loving obedience of His people.
How cool is that?! (Hint: very.)
So let’s ring in this year of our Lord with great joy, anticipation, and gratitude for the incredible, purposeful roles that He has given each and every one of His people in the advance of His Kingdom right here on His earth and right now in His year of 2017.
Let’s do everything that we are able with all that He has given us to make 2017 His.
Not because He needs us.
Not because He needs our help.
And not because 2017 isn’t completely His already.
Let us do the world-shaping work He’s given us because we love Him and want to see His will done on earth as it is in heaven.
Let us pursue His everything-touching Gospel-fueled Great Commission with the confidence of a people who believe that their king is the King before whom every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess.
King Jesus completely owns 2017.
Let us live as though we actually believe this…and spend ourselves accordingly.
