AmericanPersecution

As we draw closer to Election Day in America, we are predictably being encouraged to fear anything and everything but God so that we might then spin, rationalize, and fabricate all manner of imaginary cover to justify our supporting this year’s incarnation of “the lesser evil”, so that said evil might take us down the path to cultural implosion and darkness just…a…little…slower.

This approach has been working really well over the past 50 years or so, so why stop now, right?

Why have faith in God and trust in God to lead us to do the hard things and take the hard stands necessary to actually reconcile the American culture to Him on His terms when we can just dive into all of our favorite fears instead and use them to get us off the hook for actually advancing the Great Commission in (and over) America?

After all, it’s sooooooo much easier to have fear than it is to live out true faith, and since “easy” is just about our favorite thing here in America, we’re all about fear: Our actions (political and otherwise) are defined by fear, which has quite naturally made our culture and civilization a product of (and slave to) fear.

We’re told to fear Hillary.

We’re told to fear a Hillary Supreme Court nominee.

We’re told to fear a Hillary Court’s impact on the million+ babies that we already murder each and every year here in “the land of the free” and the home of the NSA…thanks to…*drumroll*…the decision(s) made over 40 years ago by a Supreme Court loaded with Republican appointees and upheld by several subsequent decisions made by courts loaded with – you guessed it – Republican appointees. (Much like the same Republican appointee led Court that gave us ObamaCare and “gay marriage” last year. See a trend here, people?)

We’re told to fear the Russians.

And the Chinese.

And the Mexicans.

And ISIS.

And somewhere in the mix, if the conversation goes on long enough, we’re often told to fear what might happen to Christians if Hillary gets into office.

Christians might face extra persecution under a Clinton administration, don’tcha know, and that ought to be something we fear enough to nudge us toward voting for Trump.

To those using that angle to make yet another fear-fueled pitch for The Donald, I ask the following: What if persecution is exactly what American Christianity needs?

What if the American church is in dire need of the purification that comes through persecution?

What if phony American Christians need to be weeded out?

What if 501(c)(3) State-licensed religious institutions need to go away?

What if megachurches built around man-made business models need to disappear?

What if God is about to use persecution to accomplish that and strengthen His Bride before leading her to the inevitable victories to come?

What if the very thing “American Christians” seek to avoid is the very thing God will use to make “American Christianity” go away?

Wouldn’t that be nice?

Wouldn’t it be cool to have a trim, fit, and serious Church rise like a phoenix from the ashes of the pathetic, lazy, comfortable, accommodating, biblically illiterate and culturally impotent “American Christianity” leading the culture to hell right now?

Wouldn’t that be a good thing?

Wouldn’t it be beautiful to finally see a serious, mature, Christ-centered Church preserved through the fire of persecution that sweeps away the phonies, frauds, and traitors that now define American evangelicalism?

So don’t fear Clinton, Christians.

Don’t fear Trump, either.

Fear the Lord.

And let the chips fall where they may…all according to His plans, all for His glory, and all to the eternal benefit of His people.

  1. Those that call themselves Christians aren't being persecuted, they're being cast out just as Scripture says.

  2. Ha Ha Ha. You have spoken truth… (sort of). However, I don't see an accompanying "voter guide" to your rhetoric. Basically what you've said is, "Fear not!" I think one of the Bible's authors have already penned that exclamation. You don't offer Christian voters any concrete advice on which of the candidates they should choose. Are you afraid of the government "coming to get you" for actually endorsing a candidate? Here's my opinion: You Christian "leaders" who keep announcing that the church may be "sinning" (sorry, that's the way I'm reading this junk) by choosing to support a Trump/Pence ticket, need to grow and set and actually tell us who YOU are voting for. I stand by my conviction that one of two candidates (from the major political parties) will be raised up by God to "lead" this country. However, I also believe that Christians have a DUTY to register and vote. There are many estimates – numbers are all over the board – about the number of evangelical Protestants who go missing on election day, but let's use a round number of 27 million (half of what Cruz claims were missing). These people need church leaders to inspire them to go out and VOTE. Please don't be just another noisy gong or clanging symbol who appears to be chastising the Trump supporters. These people aren't only fed up with government (which gave rise to Trump), many are also fed up with the lack of Truth coming out of the American pulpits. I'm ready to hear some fire & brimstone messages, but that's a different chapter in the church's novel. God bless!

    1. Christians are not "duty" bound to vote. Quite the opposite – Christians are commanded not to get entangled in the civil matters of this world, 2 Timothy 2:4. The word affairs in this passage, (GK) pragmateía, includes civil matters according to Thayer. Additionally, we are commanded to be separate from the world, 2 Corinthians 6:17. We are citizens of the Kingdom of God. Jesus is our King, and our allegiance is to Him only. First and second century Christians were martyred because they refused to acknowledge Caesar as their king. We should have the same mentality. Neither Obama, Trump, Clinton or any other world leader should be considered the leader of God's people. God's provisions for Kingdom citizens is not tied to who or what party is in the White House. God supplies our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. So, if i'm picking up what the writer of this article is laying down, there should be an exodus from Babylon and a journey back to Zion.
