It’s an awesome thing, this mission we’ve been given:
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” ~ Matthew 28:18-20
Just think of what that means. Think of what we’ve been called to do.
Think of homes and families pursuing God’s nature as the source of peace, joy, and prosperity in every area of life right here and now. Think of business being done and businesses being run to the glory of God right here and now. Think of politics, government, science and art all being pursued the same way…right here on an earth transformed one supernatural salvation at a time through the power of the Gospel.
It’d hard right now, I know, but in a way the sheer darkness of our present situation is a blessing. It is purposeful and it is helpful in at least the sense that it offers the perfect black backdrop against which the supernatural beauty and power of the Gospel might shimmer and shine.
That’s where we are right now. In a dark place called to a great mission with a shimmering, supernaturally beautiful and powerful force in our hands and on our tongues, all provided by God’s grace, for His glory, and to our eternal benefit.
Of all creatures, He chose to call and equip us – people consumed and defined by selfishness and sin before He supernaturally intervened and imposed upon us a living, Christ-centered nature where before there was only self-centered death. I mean…WOW!
So here we are now on the last day of 2014, looking forward to the next Year of our Lord en route to the perfected, restored creation to come, where the people of God reign, rule, explore and adventure by His side in a perfected, restored creation.
Again…WOW!
I don’t know about you, but that eternal perspective inspires me greatly when I am not so much feeling like the greatest of foot soldiers in the Army of the King. I hope and pray that this perspective will inspire you as well.
We have so much to do, and things so often look so bad, but remember always: He has us right when and where He wants us. We are here for great purpose – His purpose.
We are not here to merely watch or observe. We are here to act. We are the vessels that He has chosen to carry His Gospel to the world. We are the vessels that He has chosen to carry our His Great Commission mandate.
We are those people.
As we all roll together toward 2015, I want to thank our loving Lord for each and every one of you reading this right now. The early support and encouragement that Holly and I have received through these first few months of focus on Fire Breathing Christian has been more beautiful and inspiring to us than you may ever know on this side of eternity.
Thank you!
It’s been such a joy and learning experience. We look forward to continuing to grow and learn more and more about Him alongside you in the coming year, Lord willing.
Eternal life is not coming for His people. It is here. It is now.
We’re so thankful to have had the opportunity to share some snippets of 2014 with you here in this place…and we cherish the assurance of getting to know each and every Brother and Sister in Christ as we explore and adventure together in that perfect world to come.
In the meantime, we have work to do.
So let’s take these beautiful, challenging things that we are learning about our Lord, His Gospel, and His Great Commission, and let’s apply them. Let’s do what He has commanded. Let’s be and make the disciples described in that Great Commission our of love for the King of creation.
Soli Deo Gloria…and let’s roll!
